Revell Decal Sheet H-1435 (formerly H-1462) 1:25 Shirley “Cha Cha” Muldowney Dragster
This is the original Revell decal sheet from a personal favorite, Shirley “Cha Cha” Muldowney’s hot pink Top Fuel Dragster. The kit was issued as H-1462 in Revell’s 1977-1978 catalogue, but they only used that number for one year, reissuing the kit in their 1978-1979 catalogue as H-1435, no reason given! Thanks to super-sleuth James Poole for providing the information and catalogue photos. I’d earlier mistakenly suggested that this was a printing error, but it was actually just a change in numbering. In any case, the decal is 45 years old. Happy birthday!
Decal is unused, in superb, glossy condition, with a slight curl and some aging at the edges of the transfer paper, but no cracks in the actual decals and is ready for application. Size of decal sheet is 7¾″ X 2⅜″. MPN #127730
Shirley “Cha Cha” Muldowney — The First Lady of Drag Racing (pace, RuPaul) — was the first woman to receive a license from the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) to drive a Top Fuel dragster. She won the NHRA Top Fuel championship in 1977, 1980, & 1982, becoming the first ever to win two and then three Top Fuel titles. She won a total of 18 NHRA national events.
A NOTE ON YELLOWING: Scanners may not pick up subtle color differences that the human eye can see up close under good lighting. These are the original decals and are over four decades old. There is some yellowing of the paper substrate of the sheet and while this generally should not affect the decal itself, we’ve all seen what happens to decals on models after years and years: despite starting out fresh, the clear parts of the decal can begin to discolor due to environmental effects. That may also happen to decal sheets, even those kept in secure storage, out of light, and under controlled temperatures & humidity. In the case of these decals, the yellowing of the paper is minimal, but I can’t guarantee whether any degree of yellowing has occurred on each individual decal segment.
