The Cuban Poster Gallery appreciates your business!

OUR PRICE FOR THIS POSTER IS $298 We are thrilled to offer a bold, original, limited edition screen-printed poster designed and hand-signed by California artist Jesus Barraza to mark the 200th anniversary of the start of Mexico's War of Independence in 1810. The poster is simply titled 2010. The war that this poster commemorates ended in 1821 when Mexico gained its independence from Spain.

Jesus Barraza's graphics are in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian American Art Museum (SAAM) in Washington D.C.

A Mexican-American, Barraza used this poster to also salute Mexico's modern-day warriors, the Zapatistas, who in 1994 launched a “war” against the Mexican government, seeking (among other things) control by indigenous peoples of their land and resources. Often seen wearing black masks, which have become an international symbol of their struggle, the Zapatistas are based in Chiapas, the poorest state in Mexico.

The Zapatistas are named after Emiliano Zapata (1879-1919), a hero of the Mexican revolution of 1910-1920. The background of Barraza's poster shows Zapata's army on horseback!

This artful screen-print, which measures approximately 26 by 20 inches (66 by 48 cm), was designed by Barraza in 2009 in his studio in the San Francisco Bay area. Only 60 copies were made of this poster, which was hand signed, dated and titled by Barraza.

Barraza's distinctive posters have been displayed in museums in the United States, Europe and Latin America. Notably, his graphics were included in a 2021 exhibition at the Smithsonian American Art MuseumSAAM, “¡Printing the Revolution! The Rise and Impact of Chicano Graphics, 1965 to Now,” which featured historic civil rights era prints alongside contemporary works by graphic art masters such as Barraza.

Born in El Paso, Texas in 1976, Jesus Barraza is also a frequent lecturer on graphic art and Chicano culture who proudly notes that his ancestors come from the Yaqui peoples of Durango, Jalisco and the Sonora Desert.

Overall condition of this original poster is good. (We never rate any of the screen-prints we sell as perfect because they are handmade). Buy with 100 percent confidence: all posters purchased from the Cuban Poster Gallery on eBay can be returned for any reason within 30 days.
