Antique 1924 Union Colorimeter SINCLAIR Oil Industrial Petroliana
Lamp Gasoline

Antique 1920's Union Colorimeter Sinclair Oil Testing Device This is a stunning antique oil testing device made by T. D. Simpson for Sinclair Refining Co.  the body is made out of beautiful dark stained wood and the hardware is brass. This device was used for testing oil quality and type.

The colorimeter starts with a simple light source. With the help of a lens and tristimulus absorption filters, the beam of light becomes a single, focused wavelength which then moves through to the sample solution. On the other side of the solution is a photocell detector that identifies how much of the wavelength got absorbed.

There is a knob on the side that raises a retractable magazine. The magazine has an array of different colored opaque circles on the front, the side has numbers 0-8, and a letter A. Zero and Two are missing. On the side of the Colorimeter there is a hinged mirror. One would look through the hole on the front and simultaneously be able to see the corresponding number through the small round mirror. A very clever device! The lamp shade has a beautiful layer of patina on it, only a true antique would be able to achieve.
This antique Sinclair Oil testing device has so much detail from the Edwardian style spindle to the the ornate lamp switch this is a museum-worthy piece.

In excellent working condition. PLEASE NOTE THE BLUE GLASS IS CRACKED, and it has been glued back together. Unsure if there are more color slides that might be missing.
