Vasco Núñez de Balboa (born 1475 in Jerez de los Caballeros, Spain; died in January 1519 in Acia near Darién, Panama, executed) was a Spanish explorer, conquistador and adventurer. He was the first European to view the Pacific Ocean from the American continent.
