This is an antique lidded wood travel lap desk. I believe it dates from the early 19th century. The large box is made of a beautiful blond wood. I believe it is maple. There are other woods in the interior compartments.
It has all the original brass hardware but is missing the key. Most of the velvet fabric cover on the desk portion is worn off.
There are several large compartments, two small drawers and a small hidden compartment.
