- The map labels numerous
wharves along Commercial Street, many of which had spurs from the
railroads serving this busy seaport.
- Named railroads include the Boston & Maine, the
Portland & Rochester, the Grand Trunk, the Portland &
Ogdensburg, and the Eastern.
- The map also labels the Cape Elizabeth
Ferry, Tukeys Bridge, and the Portland Harbor Lighthouse.
- Other landmarks on the map are the Baseball Grounds on
Forest Avenue near Back Cove, Alms House, Knightville, Libbys Corner,
Canal Basin, Eastern Cemetery, Fort Allen, Portland Dry Docks, the town
of Deering, Maine General Hospital, Fore River, Ice Pond, City Hall,
Turner Island, and Vaughans Bridge.
- The image area measures 24.7 x 31.2 cm [9¾"
x 12¼"], with
generous margins
on all sides.
