The VEF M-697 network tube radio receiver has been produced since 1949 by the VEF State Electrotechnical Plant. The radio receiver ''VEF M-697'' was created on the basis of the receiver ''VEF M-557''. In the new receiver, the IF bandwidth control circuit was eliminated, which was replaced by a step-type treble tone switch, which did not affect the reception quality in the best way. The owners of the receiver had complaints about the instability of the local oscillator in the HF band. After 8 months of production, the model was discontinued and replaced by a new, more advanced Baltika model. The receiver is assembled on 6 lamps. The frequency converter is made on a 6A7 lamp, an IF on a 6K7 lamp, an AGC detector and a LF preamplifier on 6G7, a final PA on 6P6S, an optical tuning indicator on 6E5S, a rectifier unit on 5Ts4S. The loudspeaker uses a dynamic high-sensitivity loudspeaker with a combined magnet system with a permanent magnet and a bias coil, which is also used as a filter inductor. Output power 2W. Ranges: DV 150...410 kHz, MW 520...1500 kHz, HF 4.28...12.1 MHz. IF is 469 kHz. Sensitivity from the antenna to the LW and MW 200 μV, HF 300 μV, from the pickup jacks 0.25 V. Adjacent channel selectivity 26 dB on the LW, MW, 12 dB on the HF bands. The attenuation of the signal on the image channel is more than 30 dB in the LW, MW and 12 dB in the HF bands. The range of reproducible sound frequencies is 100...4000 Hz. Power consumption 67 W. Receiver dimensions 560x360x250 mm, weight 13 kg. The plant also produced complete kits for self-assembly of the VEF M-697 receiver.
