Vintage Christian Dior Cocktail Dress, New York. 1950's. Previously owned.

Navy, raw silk or silk blend. Bodice lining still intact,  Great condition, little wear. No tears, holes or discoloration.  It has pockets!  It appears to originally have an attached collar or stole but was not included when I first purchased in the late 1980's.  Button holes around neckline, with pretty scalloping.  It has hemming, but difficult to tell if it was modified or if stitching is original.

Has labels from Christian Dior and Young-Quinlan Designer Department store in Minneapolis.  Labels appear original based on internet searches of vintage Dior.  Young-Quinlan placed labels on items or sale in their store, as was common practice.  Talon zipper appears from the era.  Elizabeth Quinlan, was the first female buyer in New York, and in 1926 opened a women's department store as an equal partner with Fred Young. Building is still a local landmark.  This would have likely have been purchased in the early days of buying designer clothes and bring them to high end stores in the Midwest from New York.

I have had this dress in my closet for 30 years after finding it in a local vintage store in Minneapolis. I saved it hoping my daughter would want it, but hopes were dashed.
