Vintage Set of 2 Kutani Japanese Gilded Hanging Porcelain Scroll Weights Fuchin

Stunning, substantial set of two matching gilded porcelain scroll weights (fuchin) from the famous Kutani porcelain region of Japan. Each piece is hand-formed and hand-painted in Mokube pattern (one of Kutani's most recognized and beloved patterns) in mokubei's signature colors on a beautiful egg shaped body. These do not include the tassels.

Note: I had these appraised on Antiques Roadshow and they were estimated to be from the 1920’s.

History:  Traditional Japanese rooms are often decorated with scrolls. A “fuchin” or scroll weight is a pair of tasselled weights made of porcelain or stone that is hung on the scroll's bottom end roller to straighten the scroll and steady it in the breeze. Fuchin also accentuates the beauty of the scroll. This beautiful hand painted pair of fuchin can accentuate an armoire or a dresser by hanging on the keys or handles, or be a decorative piece as curtain tie backs.
