Idle Valley are a melodic British indie rock band who write compact power pop songs and craft understated ballads. The founding members Rob (guitar/vocals) and Chris (drums) played together in a previous band called The Art Dept but as that came to an end they decided to try and write and record some new songs using studio time which they had secured up at Sanity Multimedia studios in Stockton-on-Tees, UK. It was there that they hooked up with a talented young producer named Patrick Jordan and cut the first recordings which would form the basis of their debut album. Apart from putting the only master DAT tape of the band's first three tracks in the washing machine early on in the recording campaign, things went well and before long they had narrowed all the recordings down to an album's worth of material. Mike (lead guitar) and Al (bass) joined as the band prepared to go out and do some live dates. Their first gig was a showcase event in Manchester organised by Patrick, the producer of the album. As first gigs go, it was an unqualified success. No broken strings, no broken amps and no broken bones. The band have begged and borrowed inspiration from (amongst others) the following artists; The Who, The Posies, Ken Stringfellow, Big Star, Elliott Smith, Pink Floyd, Boston, Ben Folds Five, King's X, The Band, Steely Dan and Brendan Benson. Idle Valley take their name from the sprawling suburban housing development which features in Raymond Chandler's classic dime detective novels 'The Big Sleep' and 'The Long Goodbye'. It's where the ex-cons and crooked politicians live. The band are currently based in London and have continued to gig and build up a live following, playing such venues as The Borderline and 12bar Club, right in the heart of London, UK.
