Es handelt sich hierbei um eine originale, altkolorierte Kupferstich-Landkarte aus dem Mercator-Hondius Atlas, gedruckt ca. im Jahr 1630.

- Bemerkungen: Die rare Karte in dekorativem Altkolorit zeigt eine sehr frühe Darstellung der Magellanstrasse, noch vor der Entdeckung der Le-Maire-Straße. Die nach Süden ausgerichtete Karte ist äußerst aufwendig gestaltet. Drei Kartuschen, eine große Kompassrose und eine Staffage aus Seelöwen, Pinguinen und Segelschiffen (die niederländische Expedition von 1599-1600 darstellend) ergänzen den Kartenbereich.

This scarce and very decorative, genuine copper engraved map shows the Straits of Magellan, predating the discovery of the Straits of Le Maire. The map in original colours and was published in a Mercator-Hondius atlas around the year 1630. It is orientated with South at top and is enriched by three cartouches, a large compass rose and several sealions, penguins and sailingships (depicting the Dutch expedition of 1599-1600). The map measures 35 x 46 cm (platesize) and is in good condtion, showing some browning due to it's age. The centrefold has been restored from verso.
