CUSTOMER FEEDBACK:
I’m always dubious when I see a product that claims this and that in the slot car world, it’s no different. So when wsr3d asked me to test their "New Tyre Conditioner" I jumped at the chance to test it, so why me? Well I have 30 years of club racing and national events under my belt.

When I looked at it, this idea of tyre conditioning is a sound principle whether you race at home or at club level, it brings your tyre into the window of readiness quicker, this is where this device comes in.

So is it any good, as I said the principle is sound, I will try and keep my test brief...
Does it condition your tyres; “Yes!” so how does it work, the running of the tyre against another tyre of the same compound with the help of oil on the tyre surface warms the rubber up and opens the pores of the rubber tyre, which allows the oil to penetrate into the rubber, this action makes your tyre softer. You have to keep an eye on the tyres as they get warm and softer, the grip level of the tyres increase and they start to drag and bog down slowing the motor too, if left at this point the tyres could rip apart, all you do is slide the tyres apart re-oil them (you could let them cool a little) and restart the process, it doesn’t take long to condition the tyres, it could take 10 minutes, half hour, could take a few hours, all depends on the compound. Myself I would condition my tyres over several days 10 minutes a day to get them really soft.

Is it easy to use; Yes! Very easy to use. I used an old Slot.it motor in a Slot.it motor mount with Slot.it gearing, it all fitted perfectly. The sliding mechanism runs on the base of the Tyre Conditioner with the for the other axle, which slides better that expected because of the little ridges in the plastic, not sure if that was intended but it works with very little drag. Once in the correct position rubbing tyre on tyre, the sliding base can be locked in place when running. I believe wsr3d has an option to use their motor mount. Any slot car motor can be used with correct Motor Mount Pod.

USER GUIDE:

How do you use the conditioner, for me I have a separate variable power supply with crocodile clips to attach to the motor, however wsr3d have provided a guide holder where you can fit a guide and wiring to use the power from your track. Tyres ready on both axles you start the motor off at low voltage if you can, with the tyres not touching at this point, then move the slider unit till both tyres just touch. The driven tyre on the motor pod side then rolls the other tyre and axle; you now lock the slider in position and add a little oil to one tyre this then coats the other tyre as they rotated. Please be aware oil will be thrown off the tyres so use it sparingly but often because the tyres will.

soak up the oil and get sticky over time as said depending on compound, the only way to know is to learn, you will make mistakes.

So does it work yes, would I use it yes.

There are some really nice finishing touches to this assembly that make this a good product.

Well done WSR3D for another great product that really works.

Thank you Rob Lyons form North Staff Slot Car Club for forwarding the feedback and for providing your guide on how to use the unit.
