founder of the Ukrainian classic music, pianist, pedagogue, chorus conductor,

public figure and ethnographer who was born in Hrynki village of Poltava region.

The composer`s creative work is of great importance for the Ukrainian music. He is the author

of 9 operas (Natalka Poltavka, Taras Bulba, Oneida, Christmas night, Drowned woman,

Naughty nanny-goat etc.) and of numerous works. The pleiad of such Ukrainian composers as Stetsenko,

Stepovyi, Leontovich, Ludkevich and Revutskyi was formed due to his direct influence.
