Synopsis
Determined to stop the romantic scandals of Count Michael Andrassy, the Emperor Franz Joseph appoints him Governor of the provincial garrison town of Losoncz. Arriving at his new post Michael meets and falls genuinely in love with Vilma, the daughter of Colonel Tabakovitz, Commandant of the garrison. Michael's past inevitably blocks the path of true love and it is only through the timely intervention of the Empress Elizabeth that the lovers are able to find happiness.

In the Véga catalogue it is stated that the Music is by Franz Léhar, adapted by Prodessor Rekat and that the «livret» is by Raymon Vinci after Karl Kristal.
In the revue in RÉPERTOIRE it is stated:
«Rose de Noël a connu un étrange destin. Après la mort de Lehár, on trouva au conservatoire de Budapest dix-sept numéros destinées à une opérette qui ne vit jamais le jour. Maurice Lehmann, alors directeur du Châtelet, obtint l'autorisation des ayants-droit de tailler dans ce matériau, sur un livret (français) et dans une orchestration que se partagèrent le chef français Paul Bonneau et le chef Miklos Rekai, qui avait découvert la musique. L'oeuvre fut créée au Châtelet en 1958.»
[Rose de Noël had a strange fate. After Lehár's death, seventeen numbers were found at the Budapest Conservatory for an operetta that never saw the light of day. Maurice Lehmann, then director of the Châtelet, obtained permission from the rights holders to shape this material, on a (French) libretto and in an orchestration developed by the French conductor Paul Bonneau and the conductor Miklos Rekai, who had discovered the music. The work was created at the Châtelet in 1958.]
