Original 1939 Hotel Shaw brochure with birds-eye-view map of San Francisco and vicinity, printed more than 83 years ago.

  • The front cover has a dramatic head-on view of the hotel, built on the site of the former Callaghan Building, at the gore of Market and McAllister at Jones Street.

  • A sparkling silver ink gives the cover an extra touch of charm, and the brochure opens to 7¾" x 14".

  • There are photographs of the hotel's lobby and one of the guest rooms. All rooms had "hand phones, night lamps, bath, shower, and circulating ice water." Room rates were $2.00 to $3.50.

  • The brochure includes a reference to the 1939 Golden Gate International Expostion, "A Pageant of the Pacific," which showcases the products and cultures of the nations surrounding the Pacific Ocean, with San Francisco serving as the gateway. Among the fair's featured installation was "The Tower of the Sun," an 80-ft statue of Pacifica, depicted on the front cover of this brochure.

  • Condition:  The brochure folds to 7¾" x 3½" and is in excellent condition, bright and clean, with no marks, rips, or tears. Please take a look at the scans and feel free to ask any questions.

  • Footnote:  The hotel retained its name as the Hotel Shaw until 1982, when its name was changed to Hotel Miramar. It was then renamed the United Nations Plaza Hotel, and today it is known as the Renoir Hotel.
