Here we have an attractive match box or safe featuring a recumbent ram resting on the lid.  The ram forms the handle for picking up the lid which has molded ribs on the underside for striking matches.  The inside of the rectangular base could safely hold a couple dozen wooden matches.  Measuring 3 ¼” in length, 2” in width and 3 ½” in height to the top of the ram, the match safe is in original mint condition with no damage or repairs.  You can see a tiny speck of clay on the underside of the lid that stuck to the lid in the kiln.  The underside of the base is impressed “I E. /150.”  Before the advent of safety matches, there were dozens of different designs of match safes produced which could make an interesting collection.
