Jabba's Palace LEGO Upgrade Kit for Boba Fett's Throne Room includes 275+ new LEGO pieces required to turn your Boba Felt's Throne Room into the Boba Fett's Palace we were hoping for. Unfortunately, the original set created some controversy for LEGO, and they released Jabba's Palace only once in 2012.
This upgrade kit contains 275+ all-new, genuine LEGO pieces. It also includes 1 new, genuine Minifigure - a Gomorean Guard with his ax. The upgraded set represents the moment in Disney's 1st episode of The Book of Boba Fett when Boba and Fennec Shand enter Jabba's Palace, kill Bib Fortuna, and claim his throne. He had 2 Gomorean Guards and no Rancor at the beginning of the show.
New pieces offer 1 huge advantage over pieces from a set made 10 years ago. Certain Lego colors are known to become brittle over time and easily crack. Reddish Brown and Dark Red bricks are the most notorious for breaking. Jabba's Palace included more than 60 reddish brown bricks.
Several of the key elements in Jabba's Palace are extremely rare since they have only ever been released in dark tan in the original set. The 4 large pieces that form the bottom of the "dome" cost between $20 and $75 dollars each on the secondary market. Those 4 pieces alone make up more than half the cost of the upgrade. I procured the 275+ new, genuine LEGO pieces for each kit on the secondary market (bricklink.com and brickowl.com). Secondary market prices can be costly. The parts are priced based on how rare the pieces are. The pricing also includes mark-ups for the individual LEGO resellers, shipping costs, website fees, PayPal expenses, etc. Ebay takes 12.9% of the total sale price.
The upgrade includes a PDF with step-by-step instructions prepared with the same software LEGO uses for their instructions. The instructions are 254 pages and are designed specifically for the new set made with Boba Fett's Throne Room and this upgrade.
It was never my goal to perfectly replicate Jabba's Palace set 9516. Boba Fett's Throne Room brings nice, new features to the set, but most agree it just falls flat (literally). My goal was to create something new with the dramatic appearance of Jabba's Palace that included the best features from both sets. My design is taller and wider with extra room from the floor to ceiling making it easier to place items and minifigures.
This new Boba Fett's Palace easily snaps on and perfectly fits over the original Rancor Pit set (not included). I added a 2nd PDF with additional instructions to combine the 2 sets. You only need to add 2 hinge bricks to make the grate work as a proper trap door. If you purchase the upgrade and have a rancor set, let me know and I'll throw in those hinges.
Anyone can design a similar upgrade and procure a similar set of bricks, but you will easily spend as much or more. In the end you will likely wish you had let me do all the work for you and taken advantage of this unique offer.
If you purchase Boba Fett's Throne Room (sells here on eBay for as low as $69 with free shipping) and this upgrade, you will still save several hundred dollars over the sealed sets. Why spend $600+ for a set you will never want to open? For half that price you get an exciting LEGO set to play with or simply display.
