A massive sculpture Khmer guardian deity figure Rakshasa style of Bayon (came with certificate card), the “guardians of the gate”, are placed around the outside of a temple to serve both as greeters and defenders, they were specifically intended to protect the principle entrances of temples. This civilized sandstone sculpture of original Khmer from Phnom Penh. It's menacing looking statue is a Hindu style gatekeeper or guardian used to ward off evil spirits.

The face is carved in the round to show a lightly bearded Rakshasa. The massive head and imagery so attentively sculptural on its face especially the mesmerizing, bulging eyes and sharp, have been crisply modeled in the linear manner of the thirteen-century Bayon style.
