The front page contains a huge bold headline announcing the Axis pact between Japan, Nazi Germany and Italy which alarmed the world. The front page also announces that the Detroit Tigers have won the 1940 American League pennant by defeating Cleveland Indians pitching boy wonder and rookie Bob Feller by a score of 2-0. The front page of the sports section (page 9) contains a bold banner headline announcing pennant winning game by the Tigers. The page also contains a fantastic illustration featuring Hank Greenberg and Rudy York.
