Wonderful antique hexagonal shaped bone china cream jug, c.1820

Decorated with a very ornate acanthus leaf and shell scroll handle, the main body has an all-over low relief moulded design of tightly packed rosettes or daisy flower heads.

It has an applied lozenge pad mark on the base including the impressed number 472 which identifies it as a Ridgway item dating from this period. Cauldon Place and Bell Works Patterns.The pattern book for the pad-marked wares gives Pattern 472 as 'China white Mouldd Rosette Jug'

Marked John and William Ridgway of Bell Works of Broad Street & Bethesda Street, Staffordshire, England. The heyday of the works was between 1815 until 1830, during the reign of King George IV.
This jug is unusually large, twice as large as the usual jugs of this design.

Excellent antique condition. No signs of repairs or restoration. It is in excellent condition with just a couple of small firing tears to the body on the base and at the lower terminal of the handle.
