Very pretty Antique Hinks Oil Lamp standing 61cm tall overall.

A highly decorative urn shaped oil lamp, with a Chinoiserie pattern of hand coloured exotic birds perched upon twisted branches and surrounded by colourful flowers. The urn has a flour-de-lys band running around the base, shoulders and top rim - a common decoration used on earlier Chinese export ware (as is a crackled effect glaze).

The lid conceals the reservoir which along with the underside of the vase, is marked with an iron red pattern number and registration number dating this piece to 1911. Unfortunately, the makers mark is illegible.

The lid of the urn is fitted with a Hinks lugged type collar and rare “Hinks No.1 Triple” burner. As the burner is a duplex, it is unclear why it was called a triple. Extensive research has failed to provide an answer. The burner is nicely marked to the wick winder, has an integrated gallery and new wick has been fitted.

A flat bulge chimney and later tulip shaped shade, the frilled rim of which is tinged with green, completes the picture.

NB. As per my photographs, the top rim of the lamp has suffered a couple of chips which someone has clumsily repaired. That said, the lamp is still a very pretty piece.
