Some Book Reviews:
5/5 stars - I am happy to have discovered it and recommend it highly to ...
This is an extraordinary book that is based on careful scholarship and a compassion for its subject. I must admit that I was quite naïve about the history of the Rio Grande--its settlement, conflicts, and its sociocultural tapestry. The author is a skilled writer who addresses the multifaceted character of this piece of the world and its inhabitants. It is a long book but I was in no hurry for it to end. I became aware of this book when it was mentioned in another book I was reading. I am happy to have discovered it and recommend it highly to anyone who is interested in the nexus of geography and sociology. This book systematically lays out the history of people and place over cultures and generations.

5/5 stars Interesting history. Brilliantly written.
This book was recommended by author/historian David McCullough. Paul Horgan was a friend of his. This book is extremely well written and interesting. It tells the fascinating history of the Rio Grande and the many different people who lived around and alongside it. Every student of history should read it and have a Paul Horgan as his/her teacher. Everyone else should just read it and enjoy a good story written in great prose and learn a few things.
