The History of
... Panerai.... is the most famous Italian watch company. But keep in
mind, Panerai is now produced in Switzerland, not Italy. Originally
founded in Florence in the 1860’s, this “watch workshop” was
commissioned by the Italian Navy to produce a watch that could be easily
read underwater. The early prototype was actually fitted with Rolex
parts.Giovanni Panerai and his family had no idea, back in 1860, just
how significant the Panerai watch company would become a century and a
half later. Panerai started his business by producing measurement and
precision systems for the Italian Navy, which gradually lead to an
affinity for watchmaking and other precision instruments. The company
continued to develop in parallel with the Italian Navy, and the
commandos were equipped with wristwatches produced by Panerai. In 1930,
Panerai watches were well known in the Italian military and the company
had an exclusive contract with the Navy to produce their watches and
aiming sites for various types of weaponry. The ruggedness and
durability of the Panerai watches is still symbolic today, and the
company only started producing wristwatches for the general public in
1993...
The featured watch
described is a Swiss Panerai Radiomir PAM0046 OP 6516 GMT Alarm
crafted polished 18k White Gold solid three-body Cushion shaped case
measuring 40mm diameter. Fixed angled smooth 18k White Gold bezel.
Automatic movement, power reserve up to ± 47hours. Displays a Black
matt dial with luminescent Arabic numerals at 9 and 12 o'clock, baton
hour markers, copper tone tipped luminescent fill hands, sweep center
seconds, Outer alarm scale with luminous points/white Arabic numerals,
indicated by a arrow-tipped hand with corresponding chapter ring,
minute track at outer rim. Cyclops lens over the date aperture window
at 3 o'clock, GMT second time zone indicator at 6 o'clock. Two
onion-shaped pull out crowns in the band for time setting and alarm.
Scratch resistant Sapphire crystal, viewable caseback. Brown leather
strap with Tang Buckle. Water resistant to 30m/99ft. Display signed "

watch". The Radiomir watch recalls the brand's rich roots, and appeal,

This watch's matt Black dial clearly indicates the hours and minutes
with luminous large Arabic numerals and hour markers with alarm on the
perimeter flange in white Arabic numerals, indicated by a
arrow-tipped hand with corresponding chapter ring. Onion-shaped
crowns winds the watch, sets the time, the second time zone and the
date. The crown at 4 o'clock sets and winds the alarm. Functions
include date, second time zone, alarm. Cyclops lens over the date
aperture at 3 o'clock, and the GMT second time zone subsidiary dial
with three Arabic numeral hours is at 6 o'clock. Performance and
precision are guaranteed by a fine build in Self-winding mechanical
