Dollar Savings Bank Columbus Ohio.   It is styled after the US Liberty Peace silver dollar.  This brass medallion once decorated the teller windows at Dollar Saving Bank at 1 East Gay Street in what was known as the Jones Block.  The building was built in 1880.  Dollar started business in 1907 and remained in operation until 1986 when it was absorbed by Transohio, Trans Ohio Savings.   The Gockenbach family owned the business.   After Dollar vacated the building Modern Finance moved in and proceeded to desecrate what was once one of the few Art Deco gems in Columbus.   The building was gutted and all the original decorations including this medallion were removed.

How do I know this??   My girlfriend at the time was a teller at Dollar.   When word got out that the owner (I believe the Wolfe Family) was trashing the insides we went down and bought some of the medallions from the demolition company.  The vast majority of the medallions were scrapped.  I guarantee that this medallion came from the Dollar Savings Bank Building.   I sold 2 of the ones that I kept over the years and this one belongs to a friend.   I gave it to him nearly 40 years ago.   The brass medallion is 5 inches in diameter and the strike is impeccable!!   There's light surface wear from years of use.   100% money back guarantee.   Own a piece of Columbus banking history.  This medallion has style!!!
