400th anniversary of the Battle of Khotyn
Joint postal issue for the anniversary of joint victory
"Ukrposhta" jointly with Poland and Lithuania issued a postal block for the 400th anniversary of the Battle of Khotyn with the stamp "Joseph Brandt. The Battle of Khotyn (1867)".
Created together with the postal administrations of Poland and Lithuania, the block is dedicated to the battle of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and the Zaporizhzhya Army with the Ottoman Empire army near the Khotyn Fortress, in which the Ukrainian Cossacks under the leadership of Hetman Peter Konashevich-Sagaidachny played a decisive role.
The Battle of Khotyn in 1621 became the central and final stage of the Khotyn War of 1620-1621 between the Ottoman Empire and the combined forces of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and the Ukrainian Cossacks. Just in September 1621, the Zaporozhian Cossacks under the leadership of Hetman Peter Konashevich-Sagaidachny played a key role in the victory in the Battle of Khotyn, which stopped the advance of the Ottoman army and forced Sultan Osman II to make peace.
The consequences of the Battle of Khotyn had great international significance, because it forced the Ottoman Empire to abandon its plans to conquer Europe and dispelled the legend of the power and indomitability of the Turks.
Special redemption with special "First Day" postmarks took place in Kyiv and Khotyn.
The postage block depicts a fragment of a reproduction of the painting by the Polish artist Józef Brandt "The Battle of Khotyn". In the center of the painting are the great hetman of Lithuania Jan-Karol Khodkevich, the Polish prince Vladyslav and the hetman of the Zaporizhzhya Army Petro Konashevich-Sagaidachny. On the envelope is a reproduction of an engraving by the Ukrainian painter and graphic artist Ian Greim "Khotyn Castle". The artistic design of the block was done by Yaroslav Ochendzan.
