This is a very simple, but oh-so-charming vintage children's book by the very talented Kate Greenaway! It's an excellent example of her beautiful illustrations, which are worth the purchase alone! These would be wonderful on display, and this book would make an excellent addition to any collection of vintage books!

Kate Greenaway (1846-1901) was one of the most prolific English children’s literature illustrators during the 19th-century. Her distinctive style was very popular and frequently imitated; a quote from her is, “I have made it a rule for a long time, not to part with the copyright of my drawings, for I have been so copied, my drawings reproduced and sold for advertisements and done in ways I hate.”

Greenaway's paintings were reproduced by chromoxylography, by which the colors were printed from hand-engraved wood blocks by the firm of Edmund Evans. Through the 1880’s and 1890’s, her only rivals in popularity in children's book illustration were Walter Crane and Randolph Caldecott.

“Living in that childish wonder is a most beautiful feeling – I can so well remember it. There was always something more – behind and beyond everything – to me, the golden spectacles were very, very big.”
