Muybridge (1830-1904) was an English photographer who was important for his pioneering work in photo studies of motion. He immigrated to the US in 1855 as a young man but was relatively unknown until his large photographs of Yosemite made him famous. In the 1870s he started his motion studies with multiple cameras to capture motion in stops action. He also invented a device called a zoopraxiscope for projecting the motion pictures of his images, predating the flexible perforated film strips of modern cinematography.
