Annual herb, (15-) 30-55 cm tall; stems simple. Leaves long-petiolate, lamina (1-)30-60 x (7-) 24-50 mm, crenate-serrate, 3(-5)-veined; stipules about 2 mmlong. Inflorescence spicate, drogynous, (15-)40-95 cm long; bracts large, 1-flowered, up to 6 x 14 mm or larger, glabrous, reniform. Fruit 2.5-2.9 mm diameter, completely enclosed by bract. Seeds about 1.25 x 1 mm, ovoid, pale brown.
