Vintage Villeroy & Boch Mettlach Beer Stein w/ Lid~ #1028 Harvest ~ GERMANY~ Very good condition.

This is a pottery stein. It has a young German couple with harvest on it. The German words loosely translate to "The vine and the barley juice lend the people courage and strength! Therefore drink." Main body of stein is dark brown bark grain backround with a cream color wording and design. There is an oval shaped background behind the couple that is a goldish tan color. The inside is white. The stein has a pewter hinged lid and a face can be seen on the top embedded in the bark grain.

Bottom is paint or ink stamped "Villeroy & Boch Mettlach" The number "1028" is hard stamped (indented) into the bottom along with the roman numeral "II" also a "4" and "03". From research and internet it dates back to late 1800's to early 1900's.

The stein measures 7" Tall from bottom to top of thumbrest, 3 3/4" diameter at widest point (middle).

There are a few very small scuff marks on the bottom, as clearly seen in pictures, from normal wear as expected otherwise very clean.
