Vintage fold-out 1942 Esso road map and pictorial guide to Washington, D.C., and vicinity, printed more than 80 years ago.

  • This map opens up to 25" x 23" and has great detail on old street and highway alignments, with cartography by the General Drafting Company.

  • On the reverse side there is a regional map of the area including Alexandria, Arlington, Greenbelt, Silver Spring, Takoma Park, Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Wheaton, College Park, Vienna, Fairfax, Hyattsville, and Mount Vernon.

  • The front cover artwork shows the Capitol building, and the map has an inset of the historic landmarks of Alexandria.

  • The map was distributed by the Standard Oil Company of New Jersey to promote its Esso brand, and it is dated on the cover. The code number in the lower margin is 142.

  • Condition:  There are a couple of small holes at intervals along the lower fold. Otherwise, the map is in very good, lightly used condition, bright and clean, with no marks or writing. Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions.
