fold-out 1942 Esso road map and pictorial guide to Washington, D.C.,
and vicinity, printed
more than 80 years
ago.
- This map opens up to 25" x
23" and has great detail on old street and highway
alignments, with cartography by the General Drafting Company.
- On the reverse
side there is a regional map of the area including Alexandria,
Arlington, Greenbelt, Silver
Spring, Takoma Park, Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Wheaton, College Park,
Vienna, Fairfax, Hyattsville, and Mount Vernon.

The front cover artwork shows the Capitol building, and the map has an
inset of the historic landmarks of Alexandria.

The map was distributed by the Standard Oil Company of New Jersey to
promote its Esso brand, and it is dated on the cover. The code number
in the lower margin is 142.

Condition: There are a couple of small holes at intervals along the lower
fold. Otherwise, the map is in very good, lightly used
condition, bright and clean, with no marks or
