George Saltonstall Mumford, a descendant of the Saltonstalls of 

Massachusetts, famous in part for having at least 10 generations 

in a row have someone attend Harvard University. An early member 

was a judge during the Salem witch trials, and one was an early 

governor of the Connecticut colony.

The Mumfords were some of the earliest settlers of Rhode Island.
