This is a highly collectable naturally dyed hand woven ikat sarong from the island of Flores, Indonesia. The two sides of the blanket have been sewn together to make a tube. When displayed as a wall hanging the sarong is usually unpicked to make it only one layer thick when hanging on the wall. The size given (150cm x 136cm) is the size of the blanket when unpicked.

The production of this type of hand-woven textile is recognized as an ancient art, passed on from generation to generation, normally from mother to daughter. This type of hand weaving is highly labor-intensive, extraordinarily complex, and can take months to complete.
