ARMY AND NAVY AIRPLANES ILLUSTRATED, BOOK 3”.
We have been dealing with Japanese military books that are useful to historians
and modelers for over a decade, and Volumes 1 and 2 from this series were among
the BEST we had ever seen. Both volumes were absolutely chock-full of
very, very useful drawings of the technical details of Japanese military
aircraft and although we have seen many of these illustrations in other Model
Art books, they were never compiled in such a useful manner.
Additionally, many of the illustrations are new and are accompanied with color
photographs of surviving aircraft or aircraft parts that are very well-selected
for their usefulness. This third volume has the same format – oversized
softcover, great color drawing and black/white photographs – but in this third
volume, the focus is slightly different with the first 33 pages dedicated to
details on the Mitsubishi A6M ZERO. This is followed up with sections on the
prewar aircraft such as the A5M CLAUDE, the HOSHO aircraft carrier, floatplanes
including the Nakajima E8N (DAVE), and a fascinating look at securing aircraft
onto Japanese aircraft carriers. Of course, there’s even more but take a look
at the accompanying scans and imagine what you can get out of such a
publication. Text is in Japanese with limited English language captions, but
this book is so good you just can’t put it down -- absolutely perfect for the
advanced Japanese aircraft modeler. As stated before, this book (and its
predecessors) are the BEST we have ever seen in this format and we are
confident you will agree – sure to inspire!
