Very Rare Antique Book - The Lively Oracles Given to Us by Richard Allestree.

The Lively Oracles Given to Us, or The Christians Birth-right and Duty, in the custody and use of the Holy Scripture. Oxford: The Theatre, 1678

1678 1ed Lively Oracles Given Allestree Bible Reading & Interpretation Oxford The Lively Oracles Given to Us is a 17th-century treatise attributed to Richard Allestree. Like other Allestree works, this work focuses on the importance of Holy Scriptures in Christian living. It also provides context of how the Bible was read and interpreted in the earliest times of the church. Allestree concludes this work with a section on how to cautiously read the Bible.

The condition of the book is overall fair I would say. I don't know enough about the book or it's history and although I love it, I'm selling it in the hope that someone with a passion or joy for antique books will get a lot more out of it.

Edition: I believe this is a first edition although it is likely missing an image on the titular page but imprimatur leaf is present.
Published: 1687
Author: Richard Allestree
Condition: Overall, I feel the book is in fair condition given it's age. The pages themselves are in generally good condition with some wormholing and damp but overall each page is readable and present. The binding is in poor condition, the cover is marked fairly badly and the book is detached from the binding altogether which has led to some pages becoming loose although I believe the full text of the book is present. I've included images of the binding and along the spine for you to see - I am selling this as is. This could be rebound and brought back to a much better condition.
Similar: These books sell for a good price, a good condition book sold at Sotheby's for approx. £3,000. Similar but better condition books sell on average £400 - 500 and max out around the £1,000 mark. Given the condition of the binding I am selling for a lot less in the hope that someone who has more of a passion for antique books can do something with this.
