Marinus Gidding 1863 – 1925

Marinus Gidding was born May 23rd, 1863 in Rotterdam, where he lived until he settled in 1900 in Loosduinen near The Hague. He died on April 7th, 1925 in that city. He came from a family of artists. His brother John Gidding (1859-1914) and his cousin Jaap (1887-1955) were both painters. In Rotterdam Marinus Gidding was a student at the art academy and a pupil of J. H. Wijtkamp. Gidding painted landscapes in oil and watercolour in the manner of the Hague School. He was best known for his atmospheric handling of rural subjects and exhibited at Amsterdam, The Hague and Rotterdam between 1887 and 1896; source: Peter A. Scheen.
