Organic Psyllium Husks
Ingredients: Organic Psyllium Husks
Origin: India
Organic psyllium husk is high in fibre.
Organic Psyllium Husks are not one of the most exciting whole foods you can try but they have special benefits that make them a great addition to any health plan.
Psyllium is a form of fibre made from the husks of the ispaghula seed. Almost all detox programmes use psyllium as part of the protocol. It works by absorbing water into its mass and acts like a broom sweeping through the digestive track, clearing and cleaning as it goes. This action bulks the stool and works to ease constipation or diarrhoea.
Some people like to use it as a weight loss aid because it gives a very full feeling and avoids overeating. It is also a great form of fibre for any diet plans which are low in fibre such as the ketogenic diet or LCHF. Psyllium also works to bind ingredients so can be used in the place of egg in vegan recipes.
Daily Serving: 1 – 2 teaspoons once or twice a day. It is recommended to start with a lower serving and gradually increase the intake. 1 teaspoon = 3 grams (1tsp = 3g). It is important to drink enough liquid when taking Psyllium Husks. One or two glasses of water or fruit juice should be taken with each serving.
Contraindications: Psyllium husks are safe and are used as a natural alternative to chemical laxatives. As a bulk-forming laxative they should not be taken by individuals with intestinal ulcerations, stenosis (the abnormal narrowing of a passage within the body) or disabling adhesions.
