There were four Ferreari 340 Mexico cars produced - all designed by Giovanni Michelotti, who was one of the most profilic designers of sports cars in the 20th Century. Three of the cars were Berlinetta 2x2 Coupes for Ghia and the fourth was the single Spyder for Vignale represented by this model.

Top's liturature identified the model as the winner of the 1953 Nurburgring but that was the Ferrari 375 MM Spyder Vignale driven by Alberto Ascati and Giuseppe Farina which was the winner of its S +2.0 Class and the overall winner of the race.

However, the car represented by the model may have been upgraded to a Ferrari 340 MM Spyder Vignale for the 1953 Carerra panamericana and then one of three such cars which were converted into the three spyders among the 26 Ferrari 375 that were produced - and thus might well have been the winning car at the 1953 Nurburgring driven by Ascari and Farina.
