It bears exotic-looking, shiny green, divided leaves, the upper ones of which are modified to form inflated purplish sheaths. Large, dark crimson-purple florets form distinctive, tight heads from late-summer to autumn. The blooms are extremely attractive to pollinators, and are excellent for cutting. Angelica gigas is known for attracting bees, beneficial insects, birds, butterflies/moths and other pollinators. It has nectar/pollen rich flowers and has seeds for birds.
