We are an EBay retailer focusing on pop culture, movie, and game collectibles, high-end action figures, models, statues, and toys as well as comic books and trading cards. We were founded in 2011 in New York City.
Why should I buy from the New York Hobbyist?
All our comics are brand new and unread and come direct from our distributors (Diamond) or suppliers (DF).
We are hobbyists and collectors ourselves, so all our items are handled and shipped with the utmost care to help ensure that your comics arrive safely and in the best possible condition.
Our goal is 100% customer satisfaction. If for any reason you are unhappy with your purchase, then please let us know and we will do our best to make it right!
What condition are my comics in?
All comics we sell are near mint (NM-) to mint (MT) unless otherwise stated and would normally be graded by CGC at 9.2 or higher. Please note that we are not professional graders and the grading of our books are our professional opinion. CGC graded comics are of course grading by CGC, and the grade will be clearly visible on the slab.
Are the comics shipped in bags and boards?
Yes all our comics are bagged and boarded. In addition we will label your package as fragile and use additional boarding to prevent your comic from getting damaged. GCG slabbed comics are bubble wrapped and boxed to prevent damage.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We only accept payments via PayPal.
When do I need to pay for the item?
Unless otherwise noted, all products sold by the New York Hobbyist are fixed price and payment should be submitted immediately upon purchase.
Do you charge sales tax?
There is no sales tax for non New York State residents. New York State Residents pay a 4% sales tax.
Do you ship internationally?
Please note that we cannot take preorders for convention exclusives. If an convention exclusive is unsold and in stock, then yes, we ship internationally via EBay’s Global Shipping Program (GSP). For a complete listing of countries we currently ship to, please visit:

International shipping is done be a third party contracted by EBay and is not affiliated or controlled by the New York Hobbyist. Once the item reaches EBay’s international distribution center we are no longer responsible for the package.
Listed shipping rates on the New York Hobbyist EBay page is for domestic shipping and/or shipping to the international distribution center. Please note that international buyers are responsible for paying international shipping, duties, import fees and/ or taxes.
Who do you ship via?
All our packages are shipped via USPS domestically. You many choose to have your comics shipped via Parcel Select (economy mail, usually 2-9 days), or Priority mail (1-3 days), or First class for packages weighing less than 13 oz (usually a single comic). Internationally, our packages are shipped via GSP (see above).
How long will it take for my item(s) to be shipped?
Our goal is to get you your item(s) as fast as possible. In stock items are typically shipped in one day after payment has been confirmed. For particularly large orders, please allow up to three days maximum. We ship packages Monday through Saturday (closed Sundays). Please note that we only ship to confirmed PayPal addresses. The same applies to international orders during the domestic portion of their route.
If it is a pre-sale item, it will ship as soon as we receive it from our distributors. See pre-order policy below.
I purchased an item but have not received it yet. What should I do?
For any concerns you may have about a purchase you should contact us via EBay messaging. We always respond, usually in 24 hours. DO NOT open a case to ask a question or to inquire about a purchase without contacting us through EBay messaging first. Opening a case is very serious and affects us negatively and should only be done AFTER we have not satisfactorily addressed your issue.
I live in NY/NJ; can I pick up my item?
Unfortunately not. We do not currently have a brick and mortar location.
What is your pre-order (pre-sale) policy?
Many of the comics we offer are available for pre-order. These comics will be shipped within the week it has been released.
Pre-orders cannot be cancelled by the buyer: Pre-order availability is beyond our control and there may be instances where there are publisher or distributor delays that do not allow us to ship your item(s) within the week is was released. By pre-ordering from us you acknowledge that there may be possible delays, and to wait for your item to be shipped. For our part we agree to keep you informed and updated when publisher or distributor delays occur and the time frame for when you can expect your item to ship.
We reserve the right to cancel a pre-order: this will only happen in the case where a publisher cancels a product, delays it beyond reason, or our distributor does not fulfill an order, or fulfill it in full. In the case of the later, we will fill our pre-orders in the order they were received. If your pre-order should be canceled we will provide you with a 100% refund via PayPal guaranteed!
In short you will get your product or your money back, so pre-order from us with confidence!
Please note that pre-orders are not considered valid until such time as the item is paid for (sale is finalized). When paying for pre-orders, please follow the same policy for paying for in-stock items.
How is a pre-order item’s release date determined?
Release dates are provided to us by the publisher and or supplier. Please note special edition comics may have different release dates then a normal edition. This will be noted in the listing.
Why was my comic delayed?
The number of factors that can affect a comic’s release date are too numerous to list, however in most cases delays are caused by a publisher not being able to produce their comic(s) by their announced release date. Distributor delays can also occur, but are rare and usually for a short period of time.
Please note that we have no control over publisher or distributor delays, and like you, can only wait for the item to be released.
What is your return policy?
Comic books are non-returnable. While we take every precaution in shipping your items to you, but we cannot be responsible for packages once they are received by USPS. If your item(s) are damaged during transit, then please contact your local post office or USPS and file a complaint. Unfortunately, we cannot accept returns in cases where USPS damaged your item(s). Please note that all buyers are protected by Ebay’s Buyer Protection Program.
What is your feedback policy?
We always leave feedback, usually within 24 hours of your item(s) being shipped. We also ask that you leave us feedback. Not only is it important in helping establish us as a legitimate EBay business, but it helps us know how we are doing.
Feedback for pre-orders are left when your item ships. Please note that due to EBay’s system we may not able to leave feedback for preorders beyond 45 days of purchase date.
Should there be any issues with your purchase, then we ask that your reserve leaving feedback until we have had an opportunity to address it.
