original hand colored antique map of Spain and Portugal.
- The image
area measures 31.6 x 39.3 cm [12½" x 15½"], and the map has good detail
on regional boundaries, wagon roads, cities, towns, and natural
features.
- There is a large inset of Madrid and vicinity at the
lower right.
- Among the other named places and features on the map are
Lisbon, Barcelona, Toledo,
Coimbra, Straits of Gibraltar, Cordoba, Ibiza, Valencia, Merida, Avila, Guadalajara,
Cartegena,
Segovia,
Oporto, Andorra, Majorca, and Pamplona.
- The map is dated 1836 in the lower margin and was drawn
by Henry Schenk Tanner, one of the foremost American map engravers and
publishers of the early nineteenth century.
- Condition: This map is in
very good condition, sound and
clean, with no marks or tears. The paper has a fine
antique
patina and has toned slightly in the outer margins, with a couple of
tiny chips on the edges. It is
blank
on the back, with no printing on the reverse side. Please
