This is a very rare, original, old colored copper engraving view of Hamburg Hans Martin Winterstein, published in Stanisław Lubieniecki's "Theatrum Cometicum" in 1666.

The sighting of a comet in July 1665 is depicted by Heinrich Sivers (1626 - 1691), a student of the scholar Professor Joachim Jungius (1587 - 1657). The depiction is supplemented by a city coat of arms carried by putti, a baroque title cartouche, a depiction of the development stages of the comet and a compass. In addition to some building designations, the observation site (the attic apartment of the Heinrich Sivers on Jungfernstieg). The engraving comes from the rare book of comets "Theatrum Cometicum" by Polish astronomer Stanislaw Lubieniecki (1623 - 1675), who also lived in Hamburg. A scarce and very decorative view of the city of Hamburg with the Alster and the Jungfernstieg in the foreground. The view shows the sighting of a comet in July 1665 by Heinrich Sivers (1626 - 1691), a student of the scholar Professor Joachim Jungius (1587 - 1657). The view of the city is further enriched by it's coat of arms, flanked by two putti, a baroque title cartuche, a compass and a display of the comet's stages. This genuine copper engraving derives from the "Theatrum Cometicum" a rare book on comets by the Polish astronomer Stanislaw Lubieniecki (1623 - 1675), who lived in Hamburg. it measures 26 x 34 cm (plate size) and is in good condition with some very light browning due to age.
