  • Remarks: This extremely rare, large-format copper engraving shows a very decorative image of Cologne in strong old colors. The elaborately designed view shows the city from the other side of the Rhine in the direction of Deutz and takes into account all the important buildings, the churches, the cathedral and the city fortifications. A coat of arms and a diverse ship staffage enrich the representation. A legend with 48 entries in German names the important buildings. Bottom center "No. 38". Crown watermark, see photo. This large, genuine copper engraving was published by Johann Friedrich Probst (1721 - 1781) / Friedrich Bernhard Werner (1690 - 1778) at Jeremias Wolff married in Augsburg around 1750. It what printed from two plates on two sheets and then joined, measuring cira 32 x 100 cm (combined plate size). The panorama shows the city at the Rhine river in a very detailed and decorative way with all the important buildings, the cathedral, the churches, the fortifications and large number of ships on the river. A key names 48 buildings in german language. A coat of arms can be found in the top right corner. Condition: In good condition. Some unobtrusive browning of paper due to age.
