14" Benjamin Industrial "Explosion Proof" Light – Domed Top, New Wiring, Grounded w/ New Old Stock, White Porcelain Shade--XFINE Condition . . . Circa 1940's

Circa 1942-46 Benjamin Explosion Proof light with an XFINE, New Old Stock (NOS) white porcelain shade. Cast iron pendant mount has been lightly cleaned and clear-coated to preserve this fixture's 80 years of history.

This 14" Benjamin has slightly more polish and less embossing on the domed aluminum top . . . by comparison with a similar fixture in a second of my listings.  NOTE also that this NOS shade has a "swoosh" in the porcelain that is a manufacturing anomaly . . . Photos show this anomaly.  Shade is in beautiful, new old stock condition with NO rim chips.  Each of these fixtures is a perfect complement to the other; BOTH fixtures pair beautifully with one another. The fixture in this listing is the fixture at RIGHT in each of the "comparison" photos shown.
  • Fixture is ~ 11.5" tall x 14.0" wide.
  • 14" shade is XFINE-NEW OLD STOCK shade with NO rim chips . . . near perfect
  • 16 ga fixture wire is rated at 150C; a full 48" of wire is installed in each fixture
  • A solid ground lead has been tapped and fitted to the fixture's pendant top
  • Original interior aluminum bulb-reflector is installed in fixture top
  • Fixture globe is ~ 1/4" thick with high clarity
  • Fixture supplied w/ a new, swivel box cover; buyer supplies 1/2" pipe nipple for suspension at preferred height
A UL-listed socket extender is included to facilitate the use of older style, long-neck bulbs, or the shorter more compact incandescent or LED bulbs that are widely available.

This style of fixture could be configured with a "flat" OR a "domed" top. The "domed" top of this fixture allows the embosses to be viewed at eye level where their "texture" and depth add both interest and shadow detail to the fixture. Generally, the "domed" tops seem less prevalent.

While this fixture has been updated with new wire and a solid ground lead, it is a VINTAGE fixture that should not be presumed to meet current standards for "explosion proof lighting."

Some refer to this style of Benjamin as the "rock star" of industrial lights; I'm inclined to agree.

NOTE:  By comparison with a nearly identical Benjamin in another of my listings, the fixture in this listing shows slightly MORE polish and is LESS heavily embossed than the fixture shown in the comparison.
