original antique color lithographed 1912 street map of Detroit, printed
more than 110 years
ago.
- The coverage area extends
from Highland
Park to the western part
of Windsor, Ontario, and the map shows streetcar lines, railroads,
ferries, parks, cemeteries, and public buildings.
- It shows the original bridge linking East Grand Boulevard
with Belle
Isle Park. This wood-and-steel span caught fire and burned down three years after the map was
printed.
- Among the other named places and
features are the Detroit Driving Club,
three
railroad ferry lines on the Detroit River, Forest Lawn Cemetery, Fort
Wayne, Grosse Pointe, Baby Creek, Atkinson Park, West Detroit Depot,
City Hall, Fernwood Cemetery, House of Correction, Greenfield,
Hamtramck, and Grand Circus.

The map is dated 1912 in the legend and titled The
Rand McNally
New Commercial Atlas Map of Detroit and Vicinity.
