Victorian Rat Tail Silver Plate Sugar Tongs William Hutton 1849 Sheffield.

A large pair of Early Victorian sugar tons, from the days when sugar came in chunks rather than cubes.

The makers mark is WH & S BP MP over A.

The firm was established in 1800 by William Hutton and transferred to Sheffield in 1832. Became and Son in 1864 and Sons Limited from 1893.

Queen Victoria came to the throne in 1837 and she died in 1901.

This is an early Victorian set and also and early William Hutton set.

Looks like new. It has a rat tail join between the bowl and the stem.
