Paul Sandby RA 1779 Mezzotint Engraving by Valentine Green Ponte Salario.

Valentine Green was the Royal engraver to his Majesty King George 111. He worked at Oxford Street studios and also No. 52 The Strand, in London.

Francis Jukes the second engraver 1745-1812, was a prolific engraver and publisher.

This engraving is dated October 16th 1779.

Paul Sandby was a founder member of the Royal Academy and known as the father of English Watercolours. He was a pioneer of a new printing technique of Aquatint

His watercolours and etchings are in the Royal Academy collection, also in museums and national art galleries around the world.

He was chief drawing master at the Royal Military Academy Woolwich. As well as aquatints he was also and engraver and exhibited every year at the Royal Academy from 1769 to his death in 1801.

This particular view is of Ponte Salario, Rome Italy where he did several views, as part of his Grand Tour

The frame measures 52 cm wide and 49 cm high.

The image measures 28 cm x 22.5 cm

There is some grubbiness in the bottom margin. The print is on paper and a clear crisp image
