Manufacturer: ACE Models (Ukraine) Code: 72569 Scale: 1/72 Material: Plastic Paint: Unpainted, Unassembled, Kit do not contain paints and glue. Condition: New in Box In the early days of World War II, things were not going well for Great Britain. The island state, for the first time in many years, was left alone with the enemy armies of Hitler, separated from them only by a sea channel. The Germans had tanks, and the British had several anti-tank guns. This state of affairs gave rise to the introduction of the Smith Gun. Retired Army Major William H. Smith, then a boiler worker, plans for a cannon of his own design. Based on a 76.2mm smoothbore tube that was 4.5 feet long (1.37 meters), the Smith Cannon looked like a mix of a stroller and a hot dog kiosk. For movement, she had two large wheels with rubber tires glued to them. The 270-kilogram ingenious design, pneumatics, springs, shock absorbers and supports, rumbled and wobbled along the street while it was slowly pushed or pulled by hand. The barrel of the gun was secured, while the braces mounted on the axle of the wheels allowed it to move from side to side. To fire a shot, the whole thing fell on one side of the wheel disk, and the calculation was crowded behind and released one or two shells. In order not to confuse the calculation - on which side to overwhelm the tool - one (support) wheel was made with a cone inward, and the second (upper) cone outward. The gun could fire a standard, low-impulse 8-pounder mine, which was used in army mortars. The ammunition has been modified for smoothbore firing, with a trigger made from motorcycle clutch traction. Just like the Smith Cannon itself, the ammunition was experienced and was made in a hurry, which entailed frequent detonation even in the barrel of the gun, when the thrust was compressed. Such a projectile pierced a brick wall at a distance of 180 meters, to defeat a tank with 80-mm steel rolled armor, the gun had to be only 45 meters away from it. Only 5 shells were transported with the gun. The rest, in the amount of 21 pieces, were transported on a separate front end. The complete set includes: 1 frame with details scheme for coloring the model step-by-step instruction
