Jeff Healey Band: Live at Montreux 1999 DVD (2005) Eagle Rock.

At last! Jeff Healey Band live at Montreux on DVD! The Bluesfan community had to wait a long time for this decoupling and so much has already been said, it was worth it.

The Jeff Healey band has always been a top live act, which is impressively demonstrated here. The blind, Canadian exceptional guitarist is extremely keen to play in the two Montreux recordings and also eager to talk about the audience. While the songs are mostly characterised by rocky blues and, as they say, “straight in the face”, especially the few quiet pieces like “Angels Eyes” or “That's what they say” (bonus) make you listen.

Whether rocky loud or quiet and restrained, Healey's solo runs are unparalleled and you could listen to him for hours while improvising, that's how I feel. Healey's clear and strong voice does its rest. At this point, however, one should also highlight the remaining band members who do an equally convincing work on their instruments, especially Healey's accompanying guitarists Pat Rush (99 recording) and Philip Sayce (97 bonus).
