The 18th Fighter Bomber Wing was assigned close support and ground attack missions in support of allied ground troops during the Korean War. When attacked by enemy fighters, the 18th defended themselves and managed to shot down 19 enemy aircraft with 17 of them going to the 67th and two to the 12th Fighter Bomber Squadrons respectively.  Lt James Glessner was officially awarded a Yak-9 kill on 2 November 1950 while assigned to the 12th FBS.
