A fabulous vintage 18k gold carnelian intaglio signet ring for the Worshipful Company of Woolmen, hallmarks of Charles Green & Sons, dated to 1968.

The Worshipful Company of Woolmen is one of England's oldest ancient trades associations in the City of London. It has existed since at least the year 1180 becoming incorporated during Henry VIII's reign in 1522. The company's original members dealt in the winding and selling of wool, currently they are involved in the preservation of sheep farming and wool production.
This fabulous heavy solid 18k yellow gold signet ring is a piece of farming history on your pinkie! The ring has a fantastic carnelian intaglio seal which glows a beautiful deep reddish-orange in the light, deeply and intricately carved with the coat of arms of the Worshipful Company of Woolmen showing a woolpack in a shield with an armor helmet above and wool loom at the top with reverse carved motto in a scroll underneath reading 'Lana Spes Nostra' (Wool Is Our Hope), the carnelian set in a heavy solid 18k gold classic setting with wide graduating shoulders. The ring is fully hallmarked inside the band with maker's mark 'CG&S'  for the famous high-end Birmingham, England jeweler's Charles Green & Sons who were established in 1824 and still exist today under the sixth generation of the Green family, the crown for gold, '18', the Birmingham anchor and the letter 'T' for 1968. the ring tests for 18k gold.


The ring is approximately a size 6 3/4.

The ring measures approximately 18mm x 15mm across the face. The carnelian measures about 16mm x 12mm.
The ring rises about 5mm above the finger and weighs approximately 11.5 grams.
 

The ring is in excellent condition with general wear. The carnelian has no damage and light general wear from use as a seal.
